Race report
Chaves, Serry, Bidard, Vendrame, Boaro, Senni, Antunes, Le Gac, Canola, Santaromita and Marcato attack from the gun, while Carboni chases them down after 50 kilometres. The twelve carve out a gap of more than 9 minutes.

Canola goes solo just before the last climb, while Serry, Bidard, Chaves and Vendrame track him down with 8 kilometres remaining. The four leave the attacker behind before Carboni and Antunes rejoin the front group inside the last 4 kilometres.

Chaves jumps clear with 3 kilometres to go, while López attacks on the lower slopes. So two Colombians on the attacks at the same time.

While Chaves solos to victory, López crosses the line 44 seconds ahead of his rivals on GC. He closes on Bauke Mollema, but sits still in sixth place.

Maglia rosa Carapaz enters the last mountain stage with a gap of 1.54 minutes over Nibali and 2.16 minutes over Roglic.
