You can follow the fight for the maglia ciclamino from Friday 9 May, when the first points are awarded in the opening stage.
The points in the Giro’s points competition are awarded at finishes and intermediate sprints. The amount of points varies with the kind of terrain of the particular stage. Most points are given in the flat stages, followed by medium mountain and high mountain stages. The lowest amount of points are awarded in the ITTs, for obvious reasons (no intermediate sprints).
The distribution of points is as follows:
Maximum amounts of points at the finish: 50 – 35 – 25 – 18 – 14 – 12 – 10 – 8 – 7 – 6 – 5 – 4 – 3 – 2 – 1
Medium amount of points at the finish: 25 – 18 – 12 – 8 – 6 – 5 – 4 – 3 – 2 – 1
Least amount of points at the finish: 15 – 12 – 9 – 7 – 6 – 5 – 4 – 3 – 2 – 1
The amount of points at the intermediate sprint for the maglia ciclamino (first of two sprints) is always the same: 12 – 8 – 6 – 5 – 4 – 3 – 2 – 1
