Giro 2025 Favourites stage 10: For pure time trialists

Joshua Tarling - Giro 2025 Favourites stage 10:foto: Cor VosA 28.6-kilometre time trial route with only 150 metres of elevation is perfect for the pure specialists. Particularly given the numerous long, flat stretches where they can really unleash their power. (Slideshow route/profile)

Normally, this would be a piece of cake for Ganna, but the Italian is skipping his home race for a year. Last year, he won a Giro time trial on a similar course, ahead of Pogacar (who’s also absent) and Arensman. Of course, this doesn’t automatically make the Dutchman the favourite for the stage win. With Roglic, Ayuso, Tarling, and Van Aert, other top time trialists have entered the mix.

The course is fairly straightforward, except for a twisty section just before San Giuliano Terme, right after the riders exit a tunnel. These corners are on a slight descent, but the tarmac is good, and as long as you’re not sailing down at 100 km/h, it should be manageable. The rest of the route is mostly about going all out on the big chainring.

In the Giro’s first time trial, which was about half the length, Tarling beat Roglic by 1 second, with Vine finishing third, 3 seconds behind. Van Aert didn’t play a significant role, but since his Siena triumph on Sunday, he’s definitely back in contention.
