Giro 2022 Route stage 6: Palmi - Scalea

Giro d'Italia 2022Thursday 12 May - We'll see the first stage on the main land of Italy on the sixth day of action. The race sets off from Palmi in the deep south to finish in Scalea after a predominanty flat race of 192 kilometres.

Scalea featured on a regular base in the recent editions of the Giro, but it’s been 22 years since the town saw its last stage finish. In 2000, Ján Svorada sprinted to victory.

A sprint finish is the most likely outcome in 2022 as well. The route between Palmi and Scalea is as good as flat. The only climb appears in the first hour of racing when the riders ascend to the airport of Vibo Valentia. It’s a climb at shallow gradients, that will only be of interest to riders with an eye on the blue KOM jersey.
