Giro 2020 Route stage 12: Cesenatico - Cesenatico

Giro d'Italia 2020Thursday 15 October - The 12th stage of the Giro d'Italia start and finishes in Cesenatico on the Adriatic coast. The riders venture into the mountainous hinterland on a 204 kilometres route with 3,800 vertical metres.

The 12th stage honours the Nove Colli Gran Fondo. The world’s first Gran Fondo celebrates its 50th edition in 2020. It will be an out-and-back race in Cesenatico with an elevation gain of roughly 3,800 metres.

The route consists of a loop in which the riders tackle the Ciola, Barbatto, Perticarra, Madonna di Pugliano and Passo del Sieppi. Those last two ascents are located close to microstate San Marino, where Primoz Roglic won last year’s hilly time trial.

With 30 kilometres remaining the riders crest the last uphill in the village of San Giovanni in Galilea. A stretched out descent leads onto the final 14 kilometres on the flat.

Alexey Lutsenko was the last pro rider to win in Cesenatico. The Kazach outsprinted Diego Rosa and Guillaume Martin in last year’s Memorial Marco Pantani.

The sprint at kilometre 189.2 comes with 3, 2 and 1 seconds, while time bonuses of 10, 6 and 4 seconds are awarded to the first three riders on the line.
