Giro 2020 Favourites stage 9: Attrition race with 4,000 vertical metres

The last stage ahead of the first rest day is long (207 kilometres) and hard (4,000 vertical metres). Time gaps will open up between the GC riders, that's for sure. Whether they will battle it out for the stage win, that's another story.

To begin with the first claim: the final kilometres are extremely steep, in fact so steep that it would be strange when no GC contender cracks. And regarding that second claim: the last kilometres may be steep, the rest of the finale is doable. So large time gaps are not to be expected in the GC battle. The hardest of the day – Passo Lanciano – is situated in the first half of the race
