Race report
Frapporti, Maestri and Cima attack straight from the gun. The trio is 12.35 minutes clear when the peloton takes the reins at kilometre 35.

Cima drops back with 20 kilometres to go, while Frapporti and Maestri are reeled in inside the last 10 kilometres.

A crash with 7 kilometres to go takes down Dumoulin and splits the peloton. A small group – with leader Roglic – heads for the climb to the line. Carapaz accelerates in the last kilometre and Ewan opens his sprint early to sett off in pursuit. The Australian lacks the power to overhaul the Ecuadorian, who wins his second Giro stage. Ulissi finishes third, while Roglic cements his lead.

Most GC contenders finish 16 seconds down on the maglia rosa, except for Dumoulin, who loses 4 minutes.
