Giro d’Italia 2016 Favourites stage 7: Power to the sprinters
Stage 7 in the Giro d'Italia is played out on a hilly course, yet the finale is as flat as can be. So chances are the fast men can eat their hearts out. Marcel Kittel, are you up for it? (Slideshow route/profile)
It goes without saying the German is top favourite when it comes to sprinting in this year’s Giro d’Italia. One week before the start he showcased his form in Tour de Romandie after having won a series of races in spring also. In the Giro he went on winning with ease. So his sluggish year 2015 is well buried and forgotten.
The arrivals should suit him. Flat and no too curvy. One right-hand bend with 2 kilometres left, that’s quickly followed by two left-hand bends leading into the homestretch. Just one mild bend with 500 meters left and then it’s time to start flying.
Or will he see a pocket-Australian fly past…? Of maybe a compatriot who was brilliant in the uphill sprint of stage 5…?
Favourites 7th stage Giro d’Italia 2016:
*** Marcel Kittel, Caleb Ewan, André Greipel
