Giro 2015 Route stage 11: Forlì – Imola
Wednesday, May 20, 2015 - In a 147 kilometres rectangle riders are off to Imola to arrive at the Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari. At the car-circuit with mega-smooth asphalt they are to take three laps of 16.9 kilometres, each with the Tre Monti climb - no Stelvio Pass, but one may wonder if the fast men will be thrilled with the prospect...
Not taking into account Tre Monti, it is highly debatable if the fast men will be glad with stage 11 totaling no less than eight climbs, while two of them are categorized. Bit of a hilly classic, one could argue. Or should we say Milan-San Remo?
With 25 kilometres done the riders are to crest Passo del Trebbio (elevation 565 metres). Next on the menu are Monte Casale, La Valletta, Monte Albano and Valico del Prugno (elevation 533 metres). That last one is also called the ‘Strada della Lavanda’ of ‘Way to Lavender’ and covers a distance of 5.65 kilometres at 6%, with a steepest section at 8%.
Upon cresting it goes downhill to the Circuit of Imola for three full laps of 16.9 kilometres. Since the riders enter the circuit halfway Tre Monti is crested four times. It’s a 4,3 kilometres climb at 4.2% with the top at an elevation of 252 metres. From there on it’s 7.6 kilometres to the finish line.
