Giro 2015: Stage 12 Favourites - Gilbert, Gerrans, and other hilly specialists

Stage 12 is a two faced stage. The first 120 kilometres are extremely flat and in the last 70 kilometres the route resembles that of a hilly Ardennes classic. Philippe Gilbert and Simon Gerrans must be thrilled… (Slideshow route/profile)

With three nasty climbs in the final 30 kilometres and a top finish at Monte Berico stage 12 is definitely suited for puncheurs. Of course the names of Philippe Gilbert and Simon Gerrans spring to mind, but Tom-Jelte Slagter is to be watched also.

Since the stage is mostly flat it should not be ruled out Michael Matthews is to survive till the end. When it comes to an uphill sprint he is defintely the man to watch.

Or will Contador shake up all expectations regarding this stage and decide to go for the bonification seconds?
