Vuelta 2016 Stage 3: Geniez solos to victory, Fernandez new leader

Stage 3 in the Vuelta a España is a 174.4 kilometres challenge. The apogee comes in the shape of the Mirador de Ezaro, which is a 2 kilometres toil at 14%. Escapee Alexandre Geniez survives the monster to solo to victory, while Rubén Fernandez finishes in second to take the red jersey. Froome, Chaves, Valverde and Quintana are the best GC contenders.

Monday, August 22, 2016 – At 176.4 kilometres, the 3rd stage of the 2016 Vuelta a España leads from coastal town Marín to Mirador de Ezaro in Dumbria. The last 65 kilometres feature two categorized climbs plus the short and steep closing climb with sections at up to 29%.

The GC-riders will have to go full gas in stage 3 in the Vuelta a España. The second half of the race features two categorized climbs before the summit finish atop Mirador de Ezaro, an ascent of 2 kilometres with steepest sections at over 20%.
