Breakaway rider Rémi Cavagna attacks with 26 kilometres remaining. Alberto Bettiol tracks him down in the last 7 kilometres and continues with a powerful solo. The peloton takes it easy and crosses the line almost 24 minutes later. Egan Bernal stays in the maglia rosa.

Stage 18 is the last chance to do battle in terms of the points competition. But it doesn't happen. So Peter Sagan stays in the lead, 22 points ahead of Davide Cimolai with Fernando Gaviria 3 points further behind.
