Critérium du Dauphiné 2020: Roglic moves into yellow with late attack

The 2nd stage of the Dauphiné boils down to the brutal finish climb, the Col de Porte. Primoz Roglic accelerates in the last 600 metres to power to victory. The Slovene is the new GC leader. (Slideshow route/profile)

Race report
Bruno Armirail, Kasper Asgreen, Jasha Sütterlin, Ben O’Connor, Jérôme Cousin, Geoffrey Soupe, Michael Schär and Fabien Doubey establish the breakaway. The eight race to a lead of more than 3 minutes before the peloton takes the reins.

Schär and Armirail are the last men standing on the penultimate climb, Côte Maillet.

Sergio Higuita hits the deck 4 kilometres before the last climb. Pierre Latour and Daniel Martin are also involved.

The two leaders tackle the Col de Porte 1 minute ahead of the main group. Armirail heads out on his own before he is brought back with 9 kilometres remaining.

Alaphilippe loses contact inside the last 6 kilometres, while the likes of Yates (Adam), Froome, Mas (Enric), Uran, Dumoulin, Pogacar, Thomas and Bardet also drop back in the following 4 kilometres.

Buchmann and Quintana try to forge a gap in the finale, but Roglic counters their attacks and is off with 600 metres remaining. He pushes on hard and wins the race 8 seconds ahead of the first chasers: Pinot, Buchmann and Martin (Guillaume).
