Vuelta 2019: Route and stages

Primoz Roglic took the overall victory at the 2019 Vuelta a España. Alejandro Valverde and Tadej Pogacar rounded out the podium of the 74th edition of the Spanish Grand Tour. The second week was the hardest of the three with lots of steep climbs in the rugged mountains of northern Spain.

Vuelta 2019 The Route

Edition 74 of the Vuelta a España set off on 24 August on the Costa Blanca to finish on 15 September in Madrid. Cyclingstage.com brings you the route of the Spanish Grand Tour, which offers eight top finishes in three weeks of racing.

Las Salinas de Torrevieja - Torrevieja

Saturday 24 August - The Vuelta a España opens with a team time trial of 13.4 kilometres. The start ramp is located in Las Salinas de Torrevieja, a Natural Park with pink-hued water lagoons, while the finish is in nearby Torrevieja.

Benidorm - Calpe

Sunday 25 August - The 2nd stage of the Vuelta a España leads from Benidorm to Calpe. At 199.6 kilometres, the route is far from flat, yet chances are the race will see a sprint finish.

Ibi – Alicante

Monday 26 August - At 188 kilometres, the 3rd stage of the Vuelta a España travels from Ibi to Alicante.

Cullera – El Puig

Tuesday 27 August - The 4th stage of the Vuelta a España starts in Cullera to finish in El Puig. At 175.5 kilometres, it is one of the flattest routes of the Spanish grand tour in 2019, so a bunch sprint is the most likely outcome.
