Vuelta 2015 Route stage 17: ITT in Burgos

Vuelta 2015 stage 17Wednesday, September 9, 2015 – Stage 17 offers the individual team trial of the Vuelta. In 38,7 flat kilometres the riders battle it out on a route in Burgos.

The route of this stage may be flat, still we are at an elevation of around 900 metres. Burgos lies at plateau and the city itself is located at 859 metres above sea level and the highest point of today’s route (Carceda de Burgos) is 130 metres higher. No real climbing however, the height-metres are to be gained on a false flats.

Burgos was founded in 884. It is an unremarkable town with a beautiful cathedral. El Cid, the Spanish national hero and freedom fighter, is buried under the dome. He was born in 1040 in nearby Vicar. Another child of the region is Juan Mata, the midfielder of Manchester United.
