Tour of Oman 2016

Edition 7 of the Tour of Oman was held from February 16th to February 21st. Vincenzo Nibali seized power in the Queen Stage en brought his first victory in 2016 home. Boasson Hagen was strong, the Norwegian won two stages.
In 2013 and 2014 it was Chris Froome who took the overall in Oman, while Rafael Valls was somewhat of a surprise winner in 2015.

The Tour of Oman has a short history but impressive list of race winners. It's the most hilly of the three February races in the Gulf region so in order to win here riders need to be strong on the climbs.Read more »
Kristoff wins stage 6, Nibali takes GC
At 130.5 kilometres, stage 6 in Tour of Oman is tailor made for sprinters with a finish at Matrah Corniche in Muscat. Alexander Kristoff is up for it and the Norwegian powers to his second stage win in Oman, while Vincenzo Nibali takes the overall.

Boasson Hagan wins hily stage 5, Nibali retains overall lead
At 119.5 kilometres, stage 5 in the Tour of Oman has three steep climbs in the second half of the race. The last peak is crested with 13.5 kilometres left. Two escapees, Weening and Jense Van Rensburg, are caught in the descent and Boasson Hagen sprints to his second victory in this year's Tour of Oman.

Nibali takes Queen Stage and overall lead
At 177 kilometres, the Queen Stage in the Tour of Oman leads to Green Mountain for a 7 kilometres closing climb with a gradient hardly under 11%. The whole day ten riders are adrift, but then Green Mountain decides on the winner. Or is it mister Nibali himself? At the insanly steep slopes he blows all competition away, with the acception of Romain Bardet, to take both stage win and leaders jersey. Bardet is only 6 seconds down.

Kristoff sprints to victory in stage 3
At 175.5 kilometres, the 3rd stage of the Tour of Oman leads from one coastal place to another. As expected the race boils down to a bunch sprint with Alexander Kristoff outpowering Moreno Hofland. That other Norwegian, Edvald Boasson Hagen, retains the overall lead.
