Tirreno-Adriatico 2023 Route stage 4: Greccio – Tortoreto
After 10 kilometres on the flat the riders tackle a 5 kilometres climb to Castelfranco. The downhill leads onto a sheer endless uphill section at shallow gradients. The riders reach the highest points in Amatrice, after 70 kilometres of action. Located at 919 metres above sea level, an earthquake struck in this village in August 2016, and 299 people lost their lives.
Almost 60 kilometres descent the route returns to climbing. The ascent to Folignano is 3.9 kilometres long and averaging 4.6%. Another 20 kilometres on false flat descent later and the riders arrive at the foot of a 4.4 kilometres climb at 4.5%, but the first 800 metres are double digit material. The finish line is situated at the top.
Three local laps of roughly 17 kilometres round out the route. The climb to the line is now tackled from another side, without the double digits. The finish climb is 3.1 kilometres long and the average gradient sits at 7%.
The first three riders on the line gain time bonuses of 10, 6 and 4 seconds, while the intermediate sprint comes with 3, 2 and 1 seconds.
