Tirreno-Adriatico 2015 Route stage 6: Rieti – Porto Sant’Elpidio
Monday, March 16, 2015 - The 6th stage of the Tirreno-Adriatico is bound to be a sprinters party, leaving from Rieti and heading to costal town Porto Sant'Elpidio. In 210 kilometres the riders are navigating the Apennines, making sure to avoid the peaks. Last year Porto Sant'Elpidio was home to a Mark Cavendish sprint-victory.
A sprinters party last year, expect it to be the same in 2015, albeit the riders approach Porto Sant’Elpidio from a different direction. In 2014 the entire stage was along the Adriatic Coast, this time the pack leaves from the old town of Rieti, located in the centre of the Italian boot.
Surrounded by hills, the riders race through the valleys of the Apennines in north-easterly direction. Passing the Sibillini Mountains to the south they head to the village of Montelparo. Halfway the route this is the only categorized climb of the day. The stage closes with two times a local circuit of 14.4 kilometres.
