The 72th edition of the Omloop Het Nieuwsblad will be held on Saturday, 25 February 2017. The race marks the opening of the Belgian cycling calendar and features a lot of climbs from the Tour of Flanders. In 2017, the ‘Omloop’ is a UCI World Tour contest for the first time in history. The race totals 198.3 kilometres with both start and finish in Ghent. (Slideshow route/profile)
Greg Van Avermaet did win the 2016 edition. The Olympic Champion was in a break with Peter Sagan, Tiesj Benoot, Luke Rowe, and Alexis Gougeard. On the slightly uphill arival he hitted out first to outsprint them all.
The Omloop is the first race in the Flemish Opening Weekend, the other one being Kuurne-Brussels-Kuurne.
