In 293 kilometres the attrition called Milano-Sanremo races to the finish line at the Via Roma in the Ligurian coastal town. Alexander Kristoff opens the sprint with 250 metres left. Is he heading for Italian glory for a second time in a row? No, he isn't. In the last metres he is gobbled up by Strong John (Degenkolb).

The ‘new/old’ arrival of La Primavera is 2 kilometres after the Poggio descent, 1 kilometre less than the finish of last seven editions, a fact that should favour attackers.
