Giro 2015 Route stage 10: Civitanova Marche – Forlì

Giro 2015 stage 10Tuesday, May 19, 2015 - After the first rest day and a move to the Adriatic coast, the riders face 199 flat kilometres in stage 10 leading from Civitanova Marche to Forlì. It's a day the fast men will look forward to.

Shoes, fishing and tourism, those are key in Civitanova Marche. The coastal town in the Marche region boasts on the longest sandy beaches of this part of Italy. The riders won’t be too bothered and the sprinters’ teams certainly won’t mind. They aim for stage victory today and the only factor possibly obscuring their goal could be crosswinds, since more than half of the race is along the coast.

The only hurdles in the route are near Monte di Barolo when the riders pass through a rolling landscape for around 30 kilometres. That said, the highest point is at an elevation of 169 metres, and after this section it’s a Tour of Dubai-like flatness again. The last kilometre is tricky with some cobbles and bend to the left with 400 metres left.

The Giro d’Italia and Forlì are old acquaintances. As long ago as 1925 a stage arrived here and back then it was Costante Girardengo heading for glory. Two years ago the Giro passed through Forlì in a stage leading from Modena to Fano. Mark Cavendish uncorked the champagne that afternoon.
