Giro 2014 Route stage 19: Bassano del Grappa – Cima Grappa

Giro 2014 stage 19 GrappaFriday, May 30th – A 26.8 kilometre mountain time trial. The main climb is 19.3 kilometres and the riders ascend 1,538 vertical meters, representing an average gradient of 8%. The steepest parts of the ascent to Cima Grappa are 14%. (Slideshow route/profile)

The feared Monte Zoncolan may be scheduled for tomorrow’s ride but this brutal last week means there is no rest for the GC men. Today’s stage could decide the overall, but nobody will feel safe until atop the Zoncolan. The Giro loves a mountain time trial and this year is no different. Nibali is a master of these, Froome also, but netiher man is present. It could be a day that suits Richie Porte.

The real climbing starts about 8 kilometres in. In the final 19.3 kilometres the riders cover 1,538 vertical meters, representing an average gradient of 8% with maximum parts of 14%.

Can the maglia rosa create enough buffer to deem Zoncolan irrelevant?
